Adhesive labels that will weather all storms
You have a number of options when it comes to adhesive labels that are highly durable. You need to consider what the label is made of, as well as printing methods used to ensure the longest possible durability and life.
Labels that are going to be exposed to weather, moisture and other elements, such as mechanical wear and tear include:
- Bumper stickers
- Equipment labels and stickers (including asset labels)
- Food and beverage handling equipment
- Manufactured product labels
- Chemical and industrial product labels
- Outdoor and industrial machinery
The life span of good quality vinyl labels in an outdoor environment is 3 to 5 years.
Why is screen and conventional printing usually recommended for durable labels?
Printing methods that use films and plates are generally preferred for durable labels. The visual appearance of digital printing is of equal quality. But screen printing will provide a strength of colour that is more durable to outdoor conditions and less likely to fade.
It is possible to create a very shiny, high gloss finish with screen printing, at a very high resolution – so your image and lettering will be crystal clear and won’t smudge, bleed or fade over time. Screen printing is most cost effective for longer print runs. Because the initial set up is the most time consuming and costly aspect, once this is done you can print thousands of copies of your label or sticker at a very reasonable price.
I’ve been told vinyl stickers are the best choice for water resistant labels – is this right?
We usually recommend vinyl labels for durable labelling, due to their water resistance and weather proof qualities.
When it comes to product labels that will be exposed to different environments (such as refrigeration) you can also choose from a range of synthetic labels. For example, we have a number of clients who require labels that will withstand refrigeration and/or freezing. This includes items such as jam and beverage labels.
