If unsure - ask...we won't bite.

We use four main processes or methods for printing your work. Each of these print types requires slightly different set up parameters, so please use the information below as a general guide.

Contact us before you start the design process. We may be able to offer advice that will improve the finish of your work and save you time as well.

Once we have an understanding of what you are trying to achieve we will be able to discuss specific requirements with you.

Platform

We operate PC's rather than Mac's.

Programmes

The main design programs we use are:

Adobe Illustrator CS2, Adobe Photoshop CS2 & Corel Draw X3

File Types

Our strongly preferred format is an Adobe EPS file. However, if you choose to send through a different file type, please supply files saved as native file types for the program [.ai or .cdr], EPS files [encapsulated post script] or high resolution PDF files [Portable Document File].

Please note we can sometimes be restricted as to how far we can prepare or manipulate PDF files for output (ie. - alterations, colour corrections or special trapping etc)

JPEG/Bitmaps can also be supplied but only for digital printing jobs & only if they are of a high enough resolution (see below for specs on digital printing.)

Delete all unnecessary layers that were used soley for the creative design process, and supply files flattened.

We do not recommend output from any programs such as WORD, POWERPOINT & EXCEL.

Digital Printing File Specs

When providing files (.JPEG .PSD etc.) for digital label printing please ensure the following...

- file is in CMYK format
- file is at finished size
- file resolution is 300dpi
- bleed has been added

Sizes

Wherever possible artwork should be created at the finished size 1:1 scale.

Text/Fonts

Convert all fonts to curves, paths or outlines. This is most important to ensure that there are no conflicts or changes to your text style. For more detail on how to do this, please download the PDF at the bottom of this page.

Colours

Screen Printing: Please indicate all PMS colours (Spot/Special colours)

Digital Printing:
Please provide files in CMYK format

Knife/Dielines

Knifelines are to be supplied in a contrasting colour on the art file. Please provide them on a seperate layer and not as part of the flattened image.

Bleeds

Bleed is when the colour "bleeds" off the label's edge. If your label design or background colour is intended to cover the entire surface of the label, please note that we need 2mm of bleed around the edge of the label. For example if you have a 10mm x 20mm label where the colour bleeds off the edge, you should size your design to 14mm x 24mm. This ensures 2mm bleed around each size of the label.

File Transfer

We can accept files of up to 8MB via email. Please send filves to art@readlabel.com.au

Files larger than 8MB should be burnt to CD/DVD and sent to:
